Danger UXB

While running in Stainscomb recently (near Stan’s hut), Richard Bellaries came across a shell (i.e. bomb)! When he later led the police back to the spot, they confirmed that it was still live!!

So…. BEWARE. All the western end of Pendle was used as a live firing range in the past. Occasionally unexploded shells emerge from the peat – especially after periods of prolonged rain. If you see anything that looks like a bomb – it probably is. Follow Rich’s example: do not disturb and report it to the constabulary.

Junior Training; We need your help!!

Because of the recent growth in numbers and the change in training format we need some help on Thursday evenings.
We need at least one, preferably two, senior runners to come along on a regular basis and help with the two groups that head out on the roads from Spirit of Sport at 6pm. You won’t be asked to coach or lead the session, just be an extra pair of hands to keep the session safe.
It’s a good paced run and you’ll need to have a decent turn of speed to keep up with them; it would make for a good training session for the right ability runner. I can give you any more information you need before you commit to anything.
If you can commit to at least one hour a month then please let me know a.s.a.p. We desperately need a couple of runners for next Thursday (November 14th) and you can contact me via the Junior Email.

thanks, Andy.

Winter Training – Wilson’s & Gt Harwood

For those members who either do not want to travel to (or want to get out of) Burnley, there is a weekly training session each Tuesday from Wilsons Playing Fields in Clayton-le-Moors.
Starting at 6.30pm each week the training covers six measured road routes each to be run 3 times between now and the end of March. Each route has two timed effort sections.  Additionally there is a monthly 10k time trial – all of this enables you to measure your progress over the winter training period.
The routes measure between 8 and 10.5 miles but shorter distances can be accommodated. The group is generally mixed ability but there is regular re-grouping.
All members should wear good reflective clothing.
On Thursday each week at 6.30pm we also meet at Memorial Park Great Harwood. There is a choice of road training or off road trail running (head torch advisable). This training lasts approximately 1 hour.
Please contact me on 07951 424780 or mjeddleston@btinternet.com  for further details.
