Latest Junior Results

A number of the juniors have been in action in various events in the first weeks of March.

Northern Schools Championship                                                                              Year 7 girl Eleanor Root ran at Longford Park, Stretford (in the shadow of Old Trafford Cricket Ground) in the Northern Schools’ Championship on Saturday 1st March. She finished 12th with a time of 9:34mins in the Year 7/8 race 40 seconds after the leader. Her School Skipton Girls High School won the annual team event.

Burnley Primary Schools XC
On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th March the annual Burnley Primary Schools XC races were held at Towneley Park. Clayton Juniors took the honours in both the girls and boys races. Millie Stubbs was 1st girl home closely followed by Roanna Holdsworth 2nd, Anna Ashworth 9th and Keira Stevenson 13th. In the boys race Jackson McKay was 1st, with James Ashworth 4th and Adam Stevenson 16th.

ESSA XC Championship 2014                                                                                      16 year old Jordan McDonald was in action at Castle Donnington, Leicestershire representing Lancashire in the ESSA XC Championship. In a very talented field of 326 runners he did everyone proud finishing 249th in a time of 22:16mins, helping Lancashire finish 24th overall.

The Root Girls                                                                                                                 On Sunday 16th March Grace and Eleanor Root travelled to Leigh Sports Village to take part in their first ever Aquathlon. 8 year old Grace competed in the supersprint which consisted of a 50m swim and a 600m run and finished 3rd girl out of 4 in a time of 4:18mins. Older Sister Eleanor competed in the Tri-Stars 3, a 400m swim and a 3k run finishing 10th girl out of 21 in a time of 23:56mins. Both girls did well on a cold and blustery day.

It’s great to see the juniors doing so well in events not associated with the club. It really is pleasing to see you rewarded for all the hard work you put in at training. ALL the coaching staff are really proud of you.                                                                          Well done to ALL of you.

Junior Race Sun. 9th March – Daffodil Doddle

The 26th Annual Daffodil Doddle race take place this Sunday 9th March at Abbey Village School, Bolton Road, Abbey Village, Chorley PR6 8DD please check the postcode before setting off. START 12:30pm PROMPT Arrive as early as possible as parking can be a problem especially with an Adult race on before the junior race.

New Course for 2014  A safe, well marshalled 2.2km course on paths in the Roddlesworth area. It is recommended that under 10’s are accompanied by an adult for the duration of the course.

Pre-entry is now closed. However you can still enter on the day at a cost of £5. The race organiser is Simon Townsend. If you wish to check that the race limit has not been reached then contact Simon via email. sp_townsend@hotmail.com

Remember to wear your club vest. Club jacket, tracksuit bottoms, will be needed and take appropriate footwear for this race.  Make sure you have a drink and something to eat like a banana or cereal bar around 30/40 mins before the race. (Not good racing on an empty stomach)

Mid Lancs Cross Country, Kendal

The final fixture in the Mid Lancs XC league is this coming Saturday 1st March at the Westmorland Show Ground, Crooklands, Kendal. LA7 7NH. If the course is the same as in previous year’s then it’s relatively flat with a hill climb at one end. Parking is in the field near to the start/finish line.

Please remember to bring your club vest, Mid Lancs race number, waterproof / windproof jacket, tracksuit bottoms, hat/buff, gloves, trail / fell shoes or cross country running spikes.

Also remember to bring a drink (not fizzy), a banana or cereal bar with you to have around 30 mins before you race. It’s important that you are fully prepared before you race.

Please make sure you arrive 45 mins before your race starts.

Latest Junior Results

Great turn out from the juniors last weekend braving the cold, rain and wind for the double header at Witton Park, Blackburn. First up was the Mid Lancs XC fixture with 17 juniors taking part. Great effort and determination from both Jackson McKay and Isaac Wilkinson in the U11 boys race. These two pushed each other all the way with Jackson just edging it at the end, closely followed by  Christopher Brown. There were fine results and performances from all the juniors, in all the age categories, notably Briony Holt, Tom BradleyAlice Pier and Beth Quinn who all produced top 10 finishes. Welcome to Amelia Dugdale who was making her Clayton debut in the U11 girls race.

MID LANCS XC RESULTS

Next up was the Winter Warmer on Sunday. 13 brave juniors competed ever so well in horrible conditions to claim a number of awards. Beth Quinn was 1st girl overall, with Alice Pier 1st F13, Eleanor Root 1st F12, Ella Dorrington 1st F9 and RachelStevenson 1st F7. Excellent runs from Adam Quinn, Adam Stevenson, Keira Stevenson, Amelia Dugdale, Grace Root, Eloise Clegg, Lucy Stevenson and Lydia Wood. Welcome to Rachel, Eloise and Lydia who were making their Clayton debuts.

Special thanks to ALL parents for once again showing your support for the juniors.

WINTER WARMER RESULTS

Junior Races 8th & 9th February

Two races for the juniors this coming weekend. First up on Saturday is the Mid Lancs Cross Country at Witton Park, Blackburn, BB2 2TP. Meeting point is in front of the pavilion. Any new members who haven’t run in the Mid Lancs  XC League before please come and find me and I’ll arrange a race number for you.

Juniors please make sure you bring along to EVERY race the following items:

Club Vest, waterproof / windproof jacket, tracksuit bottoms, hat/buff, gloves, trail / fell shoes or cross country running spikes.

MID LANCS DETAILS

Sunday’s race the Winter Warmer which again is at Witton Park, Blackburn is the first race of this years 3 seasons series. This race is run mainly on the trails within Witton Park so trail / fell shoes will be needed. You’ll need to arrive well before the start time of 10:00am to register and pay. Meeting point is again in front of the pavilion.

Stanbury Splash – Junior Results

A handful of juniors took to the fells on Sunday 19th January to take part in the Stanbury Splash Junior Quarry Runs, held at Penistone Hill Country Park, Haworth. Christopher Brown was once again in fine form finishing 1st U10 boy and beating many, much older runners. Briony Holt continues to impress in the U12 girls taking 1st place. Molly Hesketh with a solid run finished 14th U12 girl. Curtis Holt and Beth Quinn both performed well in the U16 race, with Curtis 8th boy and Beth 10th girl.

Witton Park Trail Relays – 2nd Feb.

The Witton Park Trail Relay is being held on Sunday 2nd February at Witton Park, Blackburn. PLEASE NOTE there’s a minimum age on the day of the race of 12 years old. If any JUNIORS wish to compete in a team of four then let me know NO LATER than 25th January. I will choose teams on a first come first served basis so let me know as soon as possible. JUNIORS it’s free to race as once again YOUR club will pay for you to race. Mid Lancs Cross Country – Barrow- 11th January

The next race in the Mid Lancs XC league takes place this Saturday 11th January at Thorncliffe, Barrow-in-Furness. This is a venue I’ve never been to before so I’m unable to give you any details of what the course is likely to be. Please be prepared for all conditions, so make sure you take a selection of footwear with you. I won’t be making the trip on Saturday. If you arrive and find you’ve forgotten to take your Mid Lancs race number with you don’t worry. If you pop along to the Mid Lancs registration tent you’ll find two Ladies, Dawn and Val. Explain to them that you’ve forgotten your number and they’ll sort you out with a replacement free of charge.

Stoops Fell Race & Rudolfs Red Nose Race – December 2013

With the majority of the juniors taking part in a number of cross country races before Christmas it was left to Christopher Brown to perform on the fells in the Curly Wurly Quarry run. On the same course a few weeks earlier Christopher had set a new course record. This time around he performed equally as well in a field of 70 starters to once again take 1st place in the U8’s race. Well done Christopher.

STOOPS RESULTS

Another consistent performer for the juniors Leon Passco was the only Clayton junior taking part in the Rudolfs Red Nose Race at Blackpool. Running in a field of 153 starters Leon produced a great performance to finish 12th overall and 2nd MU20.

Lancashire Cross Country Champs. 4th January

The Lancashire XC Championships take place on Saturday 4th January at Witton Park, Blackburn. We’re looking to enter as many juniors as possible. JUNIORS if you are interested in running please can you let me know as soon as you can. The more juniors we have running the more chance we have of success in the team results. Minimum age is 8 years old. It’s free to enter as YOUR club is paying for you.
