Burnsall Classic Fell Race
Burnsall, known as one of Yorkshire’s prettiest villages, is renowned throughout the world for its Sports and most of all for its Fell Race. The race is on record as the oldest Fell race but Games and Sports are referred to in Elizabethan times. In those days it would be very much an impromptu affair probably arranged for the benefit of the children and women of the area.
The fell race was started after a discussion in the Red Lion and one local character Tom Young is supposed to have run up naked. As many men would only have one suit in those times the record of the later Lakeland races have references to runners running in the nude.
Burnsall’s festivities are held to a cycle derived from the Feast of St Wilfred, the patron Saint of the lovely village church. The Sports occur on a different day each year according to an obscure and labrynthine convention – the first Saturday after the first Sunday after the 12th of August
A trio of our club members took part in this historic race in a field of 156 runners. They were 9th team out of 18.

Fleetwood Half Marathon
Well done Richard Stevenson who ran in this race as our sole competitor which he described as ; “A run out this morning to test how the training is going, conditions not really to my liking a bit too warm and windy.
Very flat and uninspiring course and managed to find myself (as I always seem to) in no mans land with the guy to far in front and the one behind to far away as well.
Overall pleased with a new pb of 1:23:18 and a 12th place finish.”
Well done Richard

Parkrun Roundup
There’s been a bit of parkrun tourism this week with our members popping up in Lincoln, Wales and the Isle of Wight this week. PB chasing continues apace at Burnley. Breton Holdsworth finished in second place at Licoln and was in stealth mode – maybe he should have gone for the usual Mr Tangerine look to dazzle the Notts AC winner , Matt Blunden. Youngster Roanna, however, stuck was happy to fly the tangerine flag!
Don’t forget that the inaugural Blackburn Witton Park parkrun will take place this coming Saturday 29th August and is being organised by club member Bryan Searby. He’s hoping for a big tangerine turnout to kickstart the event.
